Weddings

We're pleased if you're thinking about getting married in church. We want to help you have not just a day to remember, but very many happy days of married life. However, we live in the real world and we know that it's becoming harder all the time to keep a marriage strong. That's why we want to help you to build a good, firm bond which will remain strong for many years to come.

Why get married?
God has given at least four purposes for marriage:
1. Secure life-long companionship between husband and wife.
2. The best setting for the full expression of physical love between man and woman.
3. The secure and happy setting for the upbringing of children.
4. The wellbeing of human society.

Nowadays, lots of people feel they can get along fine by just living together. This can be seen as a trial marriage before deciding to tie the knot. Interestingly, significantly more couples who live together before getting married break up some time after marriage than those who get married before living together. Perhaps cohabiting couples don't always recognise the serious change in relationship that marriage entails? We live in an age when people generally are shy of commitment, but if you truly love your fiancé/partner then marriage is a wonderful opportunity to publicly declare that love and commit yourselves to one another for life.

Who can get married in Fullarton Church?
We can marry anyone who is a member of the church or a son or daughter of a member, or anyone who lives within the parish. You don't have to be a member of the church to be married in church. If either of you has been married before, please let the minister know. The minister can marry those who have been married before, but this needs to be discussed beforehand.

Your wedding should be an exceptionally happy occasion! Don't worry about doing things right in the ceremony, rather relax and enjoy it. Vows you take are very important and serious and we urge you to think carefully about their meaning, together, well in advance and closer to the day. We also encourage you to attend church regularly before and after the wedding day. A shared Christian faith is one of the strongest things that can bind couples together in love for life. There is an Introduction to Faith course that couples are invited to, with absolutely no pressure to join the church. By attending, you will give Christ, Christianity and the church a chance to influence your relationship for good at this important time in life.

We wish you a long and happy life together!
