Funerals

Your grief is rightly very personal and private, but we hope you do not feel you have to endure the pain of loss alone. Please feel free to contact the minister if you would appreciate some pastoral assistance. We have a pastoral care team which, alongside the minister can offer support. It has been our experience that a large number of people come to faith and come back to church services in the wake of losing a loved one. There is no doubt that Christian faith nurtured and encourage by weekly worship of the God who has conquered death can be a tremendous strength in the face of grief and deep loss.

Hymns

Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak but thou art mighty;
Hold me with thy powerful hand:
Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven,
Feed me till my want is o'er.
Open now the crystal fountain,
Whence thy healing stream doth flow;
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through:
Strong Deliverer, Strong Deliverer,
Be thou still my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside!
Death of death, and hell's destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan's side!
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
I will ever give to thee.
Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son
Endless is the victory thou o'er death has won!
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
Kept the folded grave-clothes where thy body lay.
Thine be the glory, risen, conquering Son!
Endless is the victory thou o'er death has won!
Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb
Lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom:
Let the church with gladness
hymns of triumph sing,
For her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting!

No more we doubt Thee, glorious Prince of Life,
Life is naught without thee: aid us in our strife;
Make us more than conquerors
through thy deathless love,
Bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above.

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
I need thy presence every passing hour;
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who like thyself my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness:
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still if thou abide with me.
Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes,
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies:
Heaven's morning breaks,
and earth's vain shadows flee:
In life and death, O Lord, abide with me.
