Fairtrade
Fullarton is a Fairtrade Church.
We attained this status because we have committed to:
- Use Fairtrade tea and coffee for all meetings for which we have responsibility;
- Move forward on using other Fairtrade products (such as sugar, biscuits, fruit); and
- Promote Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight – and through other activities where possible.
We have our Fairtrade stall after the morning service on the first Sunday of every month, in the church hall.
Some Fairtrade Facts:
- Income from Fairtrade funds clean drinking water, new schools, educational scholarships, sickness benefits and organic conversion schemes.
- Cafedirect is now the sixth largest coffee brand in the UK.
- Teadirect is Britain's fastest-growing tea brand and the eighth-largest in the market.
- Fairtrade coffee producers earn about twice the world price, but consumers pay only 10-15% more.
- There are 150 towns using and promoting Fairtrade products, some 2000 Fairtrade churches and 22 Fairtrade universities.
Fairtrade Mark
The Fairtrade Mark is a guarantee to the consumer that the producers have been paid a fairer price, and work in safe and decent conditions, with respect for the local environment. The mark is independent verification from an organisation - the Fairtrade Foundation - set up to promote fairer international trade in mainstream commercial markets. Look out for this mark on products in your local supermarket.
