About: Donations and giving
What is Gift Aid?It is a simple, written agreement by a tax-payer to give an amount of money to the church. The agreement is between the individual and the church; it is NOT an agreement with the Inland Revenue.
Why sign a Gift Aid form?Because it provides a free cash bonus each year to your church. The church can recover the whole of the Income Tax that you have paid to the state on the gifts which you make by Gift Aid.
Does Gift Aid cost anything? No, it is absolutely free. You do not pay anything more to the church and do not pay any extra tax.
What does the church gain?A tax rebate each year of £28.21 for every £100 covenanted. This is a substantial bonus as the table below clearly shows:
When you give a weekly sum of | The church receives an annual Tax Rebate of |
| £20 | £293.33 |
| £10 | £146.67 |
| £5 | £73.33 |
| £4 | £58.67 |
| £3 | £44 |
| £2 | £29.33 |
| £1 | £14.67 |
Can I vary the annual total I give?Yes, you can, and give to more than one good cause, provided you pay enough tax (direct or indirect) to cover the amount that can be claimed back in total.
Will I have to change my way of giving? You will be issued with a set of envelopes with a special number range and you put these in the offering plate on a Sunday in the usual way. Alternatively, you can pay by Standing Order through your bank - some Building Society accounts can also do this. If you feel uncomfortable passing the plate on a Sunday, simply put an empty envelope in the plate!
What do I have to do?Very little, and it is quite simple.
1. Complete the Gift Aid and, if applicable, the Standing Order form.
2. Return the form(s) in a sealed envelope to the Treasurer, either via the person who brought it, the Offering plate, or hand it direct to the Treasurer.
What check is there that I have fulfilled my pledge?Once a year, the Treasurer will count the total received in your envelopes or via your Standing Order, and submit the appropriate paperwork to the Inland Revenue in support of a claim for a rebate of Income Tax. You will receive confidential acknowledgements twice per year of your contributions. The total giving by the Congregation appears in the church accounts, and there are regular progress updates in our
Contact Magazine.
Is there any other way I can give?If you wish, you can send money through Paypal. You don't need a paypal account just a debit or credit card. Just click on the button below:
